Meet the CTE Staff
James Carney- Teacher- HS Science and Culinary
My primary course I teach is Medical Biology. In this course, we go over the structures and functions of the heart, the digestive system, DNA, cells and bacteria, and the body’s response to exercise and food consumption. Students also learn how to recognize and respond to emergencies and earn their First Aid/CPR/AED certification. I have been teaching for 8 years now, all of which proudly here at Napavine Jr/Sr High School. I graduated from CWU with a degree in biology and general science secondary education. Since then I earned my masters degree from WGU in curriculum and instruction, partnered with Fred Hutch through their SEP kit loan program, and received various other certs and endorsements related to teaching. Outside of teaching and coaching football and track, I have spent my time mountain climbing (Helens and Adams), triathlon training (ironman Madison, Wisconsin 2021) and most recently, flying airplanes (working towards my private pilot license).
Matt Deebach- Teacher- Agriculture
I teach all Shop classes, STEM, and Environmental Biology. These programs teach skills and abilities to get students ready for college, trade schools, and the workforce. I’m also an FFA advisor at Napavine. I have been teaching and advising FFA students for the past 28 years. I have taught Beginning and Advanced Agriculture Science, 8th grade Agricultural Science, Beginning and Advanced Shop, 8th grade Shop, Natural Resources, Agriculture Leadership, Horticulture and Adult Welding Classes. I have an associate’s degree from Everett College, 2 Bachelor’s degrees from Washington State University in Agriculture and Agriculture Education, and a Masters in Teaching from Grand Canyon University. I have been around agriculture my whole life, and I have a true passion for sharing my knowledge of agriculture. I have been in the meat processing industry, worked in the orchard industry, and ran my own ranch with cattle, sheep, hay production, and covered a lot of areas in between. In my spare time I enjoy outdoor recreation and all kinds of sports.
Graciela Eacker- Teacher- Spanish and Health
I teach Health and Spanish. In the health class, students learn about various aspects of physical and mental well-being, including topics such as nutrition, exercise, and overall lifestyle choices that contribute to a healthy life. In the Spanish class, students focus on developing their language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish. They also learn about Hispanic culture and traditions to help them understand the language and its context.I have a background in teaching English as a second language while living in Mexico. For the last 18 years, I worked for the Centralia School District as a bilingual Paraeducator mostly working with ML (Multilingual Learners) students. My hobbies and interests are riding my bike, taking landscape pictures, and traveling.
Robyn Fisher- Teacher- Journalism and Publishing
Eric Hersman- Teacher- Health
I teach Freshman Health, it is a brief overview of how our bodies function, healthy relationships, and skills necessary to live a happier, longer, and a lower stress life. I have been teaching since 2014. I have taught Middle and High School, PE, Health, Weight Training, Anatomy/Physiology, and a variety of Social Studies classes. I graduated from Lynden High School in 2009, Skagit Valley College in 2011, Central Washington University in 2013, and again from CWU with a Masters Degree in 2016 and finally from Walden University in 2021. Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, coaching, and playing golf.
Jennifer Kinsman- Teacher- Commercial Art
I teach High School Visual Arts and Commercial Arts. Content in my classes are process-based and are guided by advice by our CTE Advisors who are professionals in the art industry. On any given day in my class, students can be seen working independently on their creative projects related in connection both to 21st Century Standards and the WA STATE Visual Arts Standards. CTE has provided my students with some pretty cool opportunities that go beyond our school walls, such as painting murals at the local skatepark, painting holiday signs for the Napavine Funtime Festival, hosting a Holiday Bazaar, participating in SkilsUSA Competitions, and more! I have 5 years of teaching experience, with the last 3 years being here at Napavine. I am currently getting my Master of Arts in Arts Leadership and Culture Management from Colorado State University. In addition to being a highschool educator, I am also the Drama advisor, and I created and run the Napavine School Districts free Afterschool Art Program that serves grades 3-6th. The After School Art Program (ASAP) is near and dear to my heart as it provides free and accessible opportunities for students to experience the arts in many ways!
Andy Macomber- Teacher- MS Science
I teach Middle School Integrated Science and serve as the Napavine Middle School FFA Advisor. In my classes we cover a broad range of science topics. With the addition of the greenhouse last year, students have the opportunity to learn about greenhouse management and horticulture through hands-on experiences. I have been here at Napavine Middle School for 25 years. I received my Associates degree from Centralia College, and earned my bachelor's degree in K-8 Education, and Special Education, with an endorsement in biology from St Martin's College in Lacey WA. In 2010 I completed my Master's degree in Science Education from Western Governors University. In my time off, I enjoy spending time with family and friend's. I love to play golf, fish, hunt, and forage. I also love music of all kinds, and relax while playing the piano and drums at home.
Troy Reardon- Teacher- HS Science and Robotics
I teach Earth Science and Robotics for Middle School and High School. In Earth Science, students have the opportunity to earn a certificate in Natural Resource Management, a college credit for Intro to Soils, as well as participate in a Job Skills Demo for SkillsUSA. In Robotics, middle schoolers learn to code using Lego Spike Prime robot kits. High schoolers use the Tetrix kits and participate in the SkillsUSA Robotics competition. I have been teaching at Napavine High School since 2016. I graduated from WSU with a bioengineering degree in 2013. I returned to WSU a couple years later to get my Master's in Teaching. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and four kids.
Kim Roberts- Teacher- Business
The courses we offer at Napavine in the CTE business/multimedia technology program are visual communications and computer science. The goal of visual communications is for students to learn about careers in the digital arts of video, graphic design and photography and become skilled at utilizing industry standard software and production equipment for these and related fields. Computer Science introduces students to data analysis, coding, programing and artificial intelligence. I’ve been teaching multiple subjects, mostly math and science for 20 years at the middle and high school levels. I have a Bachelor of Education from WSU and a Masters in Learning and Technology from WGU. My main area of interest beyond teaching is coaching basketball.
Christine Stalcup- Teacher- Applied Math and Financial Math
Dalton Workman- Culinary Arts- Early Childhood Education Teacher
As a first-year teacher, I currently teach Intro to Culinary Arts, Culinary Arts 1, Culinary Arts 2, and Early Childhood Development. My culinary classes not only familiarize students with restaurant operations but also equip them with skills for preparing quality meals at home. In Early Childhood Development, I provide students with a hands-on look at the daily activities and functions within early education programs. I earned my AAS in Culinary Arts from Renton Technical College in 2019 and worked in the restaurant industry until 2022, when I decided to pursue teaching. I graduated from WGU with my teaching degree in 2024. Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my wife and dog, and I enjoy fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Kathy Cooper- CTE Admin Asst- CTE Finance- CTE Career Specialist
I am a parapro and help out all the CTE teachers. Currently I am spending most of my hours in the greenhouse. Some of the bigger projects include the Career Fair, Holiday Bazaar, Job Interviewing and the Mother's Day Plant Sale. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology/Biology from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and I received my Master's Degree in Organizational Psychology from Antioch University in Seattle. I have over 30 years of teaching experience with both adults and youth with developmental disabilities and adults pursuing employment through the welfare to work program. I love to garden and I am expanding from fruits, vegetables and herbs to include flowers this year.
David Rutherford- CTE Director
I have taught Agriculture Education for 30 years prior to becoming the Napavine CTE Director. Seven of those years I have been blessed with teaching at Napavine Jr/Sr High. I received my Bachelors Degree from WSU in Ag Education, my Masters Degree from City University, and my Administration Certification from Central WA University. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening, and woodworking.
